TARIRA Concert at Varpið

TARIRA won the honor of being the best choir in the Faroe Islands at the choir festival held at Varpinum in April this year.

On the evening of May 22nd at 8 PM, there will be another opportunity to hear TARIRA at Varpinum, this time with a full concert.

On the program is Faroese choir music, along with Renaissance music. The Faroese composers are Kári Bæk, Sunnleif Rasmussen, Pauli í Sandagerði, Tróndur Bogason, Unn Patursson, and Anne Mette Greve Klemensen.

The choir conductor is Bernharður Wilkinson.

The concert is approximately 60 minutes long.

More about the choir: TARIRA is a chamber choir based in Tórshavn. TARIRA was founded in 2002 and consists of 20 singers who have extensive experience as choir singers and within music in general.

Tarira takes great pride in commissioning new works from Faroese composers, thus making the choir repertoire in the Faroe Islands more diverse, interesting, and relevant for future generations of choir singers and composers.

The choir has also put great emphasis on touring outside the Faroe Islands to perform Faroese music and showcase what is happening on the Faroese choir scene.

From June 4th to 8th, 2024, TARIRA will be on a concert tour to London and Cambridge. Three concerts are scheduled. The concert program includes a selection of Renaissance music. It is essential for the choir to perform these pieces in a country that has a proud tradition of this genre. In addition to Renaissance music, Faroese music is also on the program. These pieces are selected to give the audience insight into what is happening on the Faroese choir scene at present.

The composers are Kári Bæk, Sunnleif Rasmussen, Pauli í Sandagerði, Tróndur Bogason, Unn Patursson, and Anne Mette Greve Klemensen.

The choir conductor is Bernharður Wilkinson.
