Event Details
At the Summarfestival and in the following days, August 9th – August 18th, there will be an art exhibition at Gallarí Á Stongunum.
The exhibitors are Bárður Dal Christiansen, Gvøðny Maria Áarstein, Kári Svensson, Kala Lómaklett, and Rannvá Holm Mortensen.
The opening will take place on Friday, August 9th at 5 PM. Dávur Winther will give a speech, and singer-songwriter and troubadour Lyon Hansen from Gøtugjógv will perform a few songs. With his distinctive voice and guitar playing, he will entertain with old American folk songs, worn-out blues tunes from the swamps of Alabama, and his own songs that cover everything from love, sorrow, and bus rides north into the dark.
Refreshments will be served. Everyone is warmly welcome 🙂
Bárður Dal Christiansen has been exhibiting regularly since 2004, both at home and abroad. In recent years, Bárður has participated in, organized, and curated several exhibitions and cultural events. His visual language has matured over time, often with a hint of contradictions and melancholy, though more abstract than before. Bárður is the chairman of Faroese Visual Artists.
At the home of the artist Gvøðny Maria Áarstein in Copenhagen, a beautiful landscape painted by her grandaunt Frida Zachariassen hangs on the wall. But although the mountains are the same ones Frida painted so peacefully half a century ago, our role as humans has significantly changed. Are we truly natural anymore, or have we alienated ourselves from what will endure for centuries to come? In the painting series “Alienated,” Gvøðny explores this conflict. Does nature contain us; do we contain nature? Are the aliens, in reality, us with our way of being in the world? The paintings “Koltur” and “Tindhólmur” are the only paintings in the “Alienated” series of this size and will be exhibited.
Kári Svensson is among our most well-known acrylic painters but has recently been working on blending techniques and methods. He has exhibited both abroad and at home for decades.
Since Kala Lómaklett retired, her great hobby has been painting, and she has exhibited at several exhibitions. Kala mainly paints landscapes but also emotional portraits of people and animals.
Rannvá Holm Mortensen’s art encompasses paintings, graphic prints, installations, and sculptures. In recent years, she has also worked with textiles, written, and illustrated books. Rannvá explores the connection between body and nature, and her subject matter often takes the form of organic shapes and human bodies. Her collages typically have a socio-political tone. She regularly exhibits in the Faroe Islands and abroad.
The exhibition is open at the following times:
