Discover Steintóra Erhardsdóttir’s Art

At Norðoyastevna, Steintóra Erhardsdóttir (b. 1991) will showcase her works at Gamla Seglhúsið.

Born and raised in Vági, Steintóra is a theologian educated at the University of Copenhagen and Yale University. She currently serves as a parish priest in Tórshavn and Nólsoy. Despite her theological career, her passion for drawing and painting has never waned. At one point, she was torn between pursuing a theological path or attending the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Theology ultimately prevailed, yet her artistic drive persisted, reflecting the idea that both priesthood and artistry are callings that beckon equally.

Steintóra’s artwork primarily consists of drawings and prints, including posters and linocuts. Her abstract pieces focus on emotions and aesthetics, while her more concrete works blend social critique, taboo subjects, humor, and seriousness, often illustrating that humor usually carries an element of gravity.
