Join the Community Cleanup

For several years, the annual cleanup day has been organized by the municipality, inviting citizens, businesses, and institutions to clean up selected areas. Last year, neighborhood cleanups were also organized and were very successful.

The Health Committee, responsible for the Virkið vár initiative, has approved trying this again this year.

In recent years, the annual cleanup day has been linked to the schedule in Virkið vár, where one of the goals is to support the ABC initiative of the Public Health Authority to be active together and environmentally conscious.

It is planned for people to organize themselves in their neighborhoods or in smaller groups, so that people come together to clean a common area. In this context, a neighborhood package will also be provided to each neighborhood that signs up. The package includes both practical items for cleaning, treats for enjoyment, and green sprouts that the neighborhood can benefit from.

To receive a share in a neighborhood package, registration is necessary. Neighborhood cleanups are scheduled for April 29th to May 4th, and it is the neighborhoods themselves that will pick up the neighborhood package and decide which day they clean.

In the registration, it is necessary to specify how many participate and how many households are involved. It is also necessary for the neighborhoods to appoint a coordinator who will fill out the registration form.

Notifications of where the neighborhood package can be picked up will be sent to those who register.

The deadline for registering for the cleanup initiative is Friday, April 26th.
