Join the Global Knitting Phenomenon!

KIP is a free event aimed at bringing together knitting enthusiasts from all walks of life. Known internationally as World Wide Knit in Public Day, this special occasion unites people regardless of faith, age, gender, or background, with knitting as the common language.

KIP is the day when knitters take to the streets and public spaces to showcase their craft. If you can’t join a group, simply knit outdoors wherever you are! Traditionally held on the second Saturday of June, this year’s event falls on June 8th.

The event was initiated by Danielle Sanders in 2005 and received such a warm reception that it was celebrated in 25 different locations right from the start. Its popularity has only grown, with 440 events across 33 countries in 2019. KIP has thus become the world’s largest knitting event.

This year marks the 6th time we will be knitting in public in Klaksvík. We’ll gather on the steps of Heimavirkið 1912 on June 8th at 12 PM. Don’t forget to bring your knitting needles and good spirits. Heimavirkið will be open, offering coffee and treats. The event wraps up at 3 PM. It would be fantastic for us Faroese to join the global knitting community on June 8th.
