Presentation and Discussion on Sustainable Transportation

Landsverk and Klaksvík Municipality invite you to a presentation and discussion on sustainable transportation at Varpið on September 25, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The focus will be on how we can organize transportation and tourist travel more sustainably in the coming years.

The transportation system in the Faroe Islands is largely designed for cars. Although our roads are single or double lanes, space is rarely allocated for active transportation. Active transportation includes pedestrians, people with mobility or other disabilities, and those cycling or riding mopeds.

Landsverk has prepared two thematic papers on “Active Transportation” and “Tourist Transportation.” In summary, both papers address how we can organize our transportation options in the Faroe Islands more sustainably, with consideration for active transportation and how we can use the increasing number of tourists to organize domestic transportation more sustainably.

The event will begin with Brandur Sjúrðarson, an economist at Landsverk, giving a presentation on the content of the new thematic papers on active transportation and tourist transportation. This will be followed by a panel discussion on how we can encourage more people to cycle and walk, and how tourist travel can be organized more efficiently.

The purpose of the event is to inspire ideas on how to create a future where diverse forms of transportation can thrive in the Faroe Islands.
