Gamla Seglshúsið

Gamla Seglhúsið in Klaksvík, a historic building with a rich past, is owned by Símun and Jastrid Gullaksen, who purchased it in 2005 and began its restoration in 2011. The building was originally constructed as a warehouse in 1914 but was quickly rented out and has since been widely known as the old sailhouse.

The restoration project was initiated by Símun, along with two close friends, and they received significant help from craftsmen and other skilled workers. Later, a carpenter and a joiner were brought in to add the finishing touches to the work.

The building spans three floors, covering a total area of 230 square meters, with two smaller extensions—one above and one below.

Jastrid, a graphic designer, owns and runs Sp/f Grafia, a design company based in the loft of Gamla Seglhúsið.

The rest of the building has been used over the years for a variety of art exhibitions, as both Símun and Jastrid share a strong passion for art. The house has hosted numerous exhibitions, featuring both well-known and lesser-known artists.

Gamla Seglhúsið is also available for rent for various events, ranging from christenings, confirmations, and birthdays to smaller weddings. The building can accommodate up to 40 people seated at once, making it an ideal space for lectures, meetings, themed days, anniversaries, and many other types of gatherings. The basement is also equipped with a projector for presentations and events.
