Hare Hunting Season – What You Need to Know

Please be aware that the hare hunting season in the Faroe Islands runs annually from November 2nd to December 31st. While many hunters prefer to go out on Saturdays, hunting is allowed on any day of the week, except Sundays. This traditional activity takes place across the mountains throughout the country.

For your safety, we strongly advise against hiking during the hare hunting season. If you still wish to hike, it is important to contact the landowner beforehand to ensure that the area is safe. The regional information center for the specific area you plan to visit can provide contact details for landowners.

Respect for local traditions and the safety of both hikers and hunters is crucial during this period. Always take the necessary precautions and ensure you have clear permission before venturing into hunting areas.
