In a dramatic and emotional finale to No Time to Die (2021), the world witnessed something that had never happened before: James Bond died. And it happened right here – on the remote and rugged island of Kalsoy in the Faroe Islands.
To mark this iconic moment in cinematic history, a memorial gravestone has been placed near the Kallur Lighthouse, one of the island’s most scenic spots. The stone reads:
“In memory of James Bond, 1962–2021.
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist.”
The film’s explosive climax was shot on Kalsoy, which served as the fictional island lair of the villain Lyutsifer Safin. It’s here that Daniel Craig’s Bond meets his end in a missile strike, sacrificing himself for the greater good.
The gravestone was unveiled in March 2022 by Bárður á Steig Nielsen, Prime Minister of the Faroe Islands, and the event was hosted by Jóhannus Kallsgarð, a local farmer from the nearby village of Trøllanes.
Since the release of the film, Kalsoy has attracted visitors from all over the world – eager to walk in Bond’s final footsteps and experience the dramatic landscape where fiction met unforgettable reality.
James Bond sightseeing tours are now available, guiding guests to the exact filming locations from No Time to Die and showcasing the breathtaking nature of Kalsoy.
