Kunoy

Kunoy is a small village located on the west side of the island. It is one of the oldest settlements in the area and is mentioned in Hundabrævið. As of December 2024, around 83 people live here.

The village covers 32 merkur and 8 gyllin of land. Of this, 6 merkur and 8 gyllin are copyhold land, while 26 merkur and 4 gyllin are freehold land. Five tenants manage the copyhold land. Sheep farming remains important, with around 690 sheep grazing in the surrounding landscape.

The village has a long and rich history. It has served as an important settlement for centuries. A church has stood here since at least 1592, showing its role as a local centre.

The current church was built in 1867. It still functions as a central meeting place for the community. The building adds to the village’s cultural identity and historical character.

Life here is quiet and closely connected to nature. Steep mountains and open landscapes surround the area. As a result, the setting feels peaceful and remote.

At the same time, the village is connected by road to nearby towns. This makes it easier to travel to Klaksvík and other places. The area therefore combines isolation with accessibility.

The surrounding landscape is ideal for outdoor experiences. Visitors can explore the terrain, enjoy wide views, and experience changing weather conditions.

In addition, the area serves as a good starting point for discovering the island. The scenery is dramatic and constantly changing.

The village offers a strong sense of tradition and community. It reflects everyday life in the Faroe Islands, where nature and heritage remain closely connected.

Overall, this is a peaceful and authentic destination. It combines history, culture, and nature in a simple and unique way.
