Esmar is a farmer from Viðareiði, running a family farm that has been in his family since the 1500s. His entire life has revolved around the mountains – tending to sheep and hunting birds. He knows the land intimately and has also worked as a guide up to Enniberg for several years.
In recent years, Esmar and his wife have created a charming and creative bird garden. What started spontaneously with just a few birds has now blossomed into a thriving garden, home to several species of fun and unique ducks, as well as geese. The garden has become a popular spot for families, schools, kindergartens, and tourists alike.
Sheep farming and agricultural work are divided into distinct seasons throughout the year. With the help of his family, Esmar also finds time to work on tourism projects. Currently, they are embarking on an exciting venture to build a cozy and inviting café next to the bird garden.
Esmar is deeply attached to his home. On Viðareiði, he has everything he needs. Beyond the beautiful sunsets and stunning nature, it’s the garden, the wildlife, and most importantly, his family, that create the sense of community and well-being in the village.
