Located in Klaksvík, Einar’s Distillery is the first distillery in the Faroe Islands. It is part of the family-owned company Föroya Bjór, which has been brewing beverages since 1888 and has become an important part of Faroese food and drink culture.
The distillery represents the continuation of a long family tradition of craftsmanship and innovation. For more than a century, the Waag family developed Føroya Bjór into a modern brewery. When Faroese law finally allowed the production of strong spirits again in 2012, the dream of creating a Faroese distillery became reality.
At Einar’s Distillery, the focus is on high-quality handcrafted spirits inspired by the Faroe Islands. The distillery produces a variety of spirits, including gin, vodka, aquavit, rum, and whisky, each with its own distinctive Faroese character.
The products are made using fresh Faroese water and carefully selected ingredients, such as local herbs and seaweed. These ingredients give the spirits unique flavours that reflect the surrounding North Atlantic environment.
For example, the distillery’s gin uses natural botanicals, including juniper, coriander, and Faroese angelica root, which create a fresh and aromatic taste.
The climate of the Faroe Islands plays an important role in the distillation and ageing process. The islands’ constantly changing weather, sea air, and stable temperatures create ideal conditions for maturing whisky in oak barrels. As a result, the whisky develops complex flavours and a distinctive character over time.
Visitors can experience Einar’s Distillery in Klaksvík through guided tours, where they can learn about the history of Føroya Bjór, the distillation process, and the unique Faroese ingredients used in the spirits.
