On this authentic boat tour you sail by magnificent landscapes with seabirds & diverse marine wildlife. You sail in a traditional Faroese boat facilitating mindful exploration.
You sail out from the Árnafjørður marina and follow the eastern seashore by Mjóvin. Sailing close to these shores you see the dramatic landscapes with ravines and sea-caves. The area is perfect for landscape photography. You sail further along the dramatic coastline by the locals referred to as “Bergið” and see the view east towards the island of Svínoy. You cross the fiord towards the iconic headland Lisshøvdi. You explore the western shores of the fiord sailing close to an Arctic Tern colony and a unusual Puffin nesting site.
You may see many species of birds including Puffins, Black Guillemot, Fulmar, Eider Duck, Oystercatcher, Blackbacked Seagull, Arctic Tern, Graylag Goose, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Herring Gull, Arctic Skua, Kittywake, Guillemot, Razorbill & Shag. Seeing and identifying the birds is one thing, but you will also learn about the birds. How do they live? Where do they nest? Where do they find their food? Do they migrate? What are their “personalities”? How have the birds been a resource for he Faroe Islanders? What are the challenges facing some of the birds them in our time?
Keep your eyes open to grey seals as they have this area as their natural habitat. They will usually be seen close to shore by the sea-caves or upon local skerries when they are resting. How do the seals live their lives?
On this excursion you are the explorer getting unique insights into birds, seals and marine wildlife while seeing stunning landscapes. On the tour you will hear local stories from the area.
